Top Ten Christmas Fashion 2010 – Faye Banham

The quintessential British winter is usually recognised by some typical cliché’s; long evenings, wet and miserable, but nonetheless magical, weather and of course the far from glamorous “fleece” (shudder). It seems that winter is a time style forgot and we only concentrate on keeping the cobwebs at bay.

This year is different, as the high street is a metropolis for winter warmers and all things festive. Take a look at this guide to the season’s top ten winter warmers and bag yourself an uber stylish festive wardrobe, guaranteed to warm your heart, as well as those breezy toes.

1. It’s common knowledge that the best way to heat your whole body is by either covering your feet or head. It’s not such common knowledge that socks can be sexy. Make warming your tootsies that little bit more exciting with these lacy numbers.

ASOS: RRP £3.00 (alternative colours available)

2. Headwear in winter can pre-determine a whole look, berets can be impractical and deer trappers too, well…big. This season’s key bonce warmer says goodbye to freezing ears and hello to a beautifully adorned head, so transcend yourself back to the playground because the bobble hat is back!

Bernstock Speirs: RRP £35.00 (alternative colours available)

3. When not fiddling with a blackberry or playing on an iphone, fingers can feel somewhat redundant, and with the bitter cold nibbling at the tips, it makes sense to get them covered. Accessorize forearms with elbow length elegance, and share the g’love.

Dents: RRP £90.00

4. All the plunging necklines and cleavage revealing dresses this season means the décolletage is in fear of becoming neglected. Take a leaf out of Ralph Lauren’s book and treat your collar this winter with a glamorous tippet, they’re a great way to glam up a drab jacket too.

Oasis: RRP £25.00

5. O.K so sometimes it’s easier and cosier to dig into your boyfriends’ wardrobe and steal his winter knits. Luckily, if this is a winter ritual, oversized jumpers are BIG this season and were championed by Michael Kors in his A/W 2010 collection. To stay on trend, go for beige or grey in Aran or cable knit.

Topshop: RRP £48.00

6. Summer may be but a distant memory, but one thing that’s still very much here to stay is the maxi dress. This season has seen the lengthy wonders evolve into a must have alternative to trousers and a great cover up for the winter chill. Margaret Howell teamed them with big knits, for a casual appeal.

LnA: RRP £115.00

7. Gone are the days where the Christmas jumper was a major style faux par, Fair Isle patterns and Nordic knits have been embraced this season and offer festive cheer. Make like D&G and inject some fun into your winter wardrobe with a toasty scarf.

Paul Smith: RRP £115.00

8. Sometimes coats just aren’t big enough to fit all those layers underneath. This year the cape is the hero, no matter how many layers are concealed below, it covers a multitude of sins with effortless style. This cape nods at Carolina Herrera’s A/W 2010 key pieces.

ASOS: RRP £75.00

9. For years outdoorsmen have kept hidden a secret of eternal warmth and internal cosiness. Now this secret has been unleashed for us all to share, and that is thermal underwear. Disguised as leggings and passed off as tights, long johns have a new found lease of life.

American Apparel: RRP £22.00

10. It’s been seen trimming the cuffs of boots, lining the hoods of capes and dripping off the back of the glitterati. Everywhere you look this winter, faux fur cannot be missed. Whether sheepskin, fox or rabbit takes your faux fancy, it’s a must on both high street and catwalk this winter.

Sparkle & Fade: RRP £140
