The Royal Wedding Dress – Kate Middleton by Faye Banham

It’s every girls dream to have a fairytale wedding, where everything runs like clockwork, the dress is amazing, the venue spectacular, the groom a prince and they all live happily ever after.

Unfortunately, the majority of women never have this dream realised. As sods law has it, there is always something that is inevitably going to go wrong , either someone forgets the rings, the in law’s show you up or the wedding car breaks down on the way to the church, all nightmare situations that for the unlucky few have reared themselves in to a bitter reality. However, I’m almost positive that these worries will not have even entered the head of bride to be Kate Middleton, as she prepares for the most important day of her life, and the most talked about event of the year, her wedding with heir to the throne Prince William.

OK so obviously she will have the odd moment of panic, like all brides to be will. But instead of worrying whether she’s sent all of the invites out, she’s probably thinking “I hope the film crew get my good side”, the last thing on the mind of the frantic bride in the lead up the big day. However when having a wedding on such gargantuan proportions, you can’t blame Kate from taking full advantage of the help available.

The question on everybody’s lips is the small matter of the dress and who will have the pleasure of seeing their work showcased down the most important catwalk of the year. Rumours are still spreading frantically as to the designer of choice, however a strong favourite in national press and the bookies, is Manchester born designer Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Since Burton took the role of creative director in May 2010, after the death of the labels namesake designer in February the same year, she has made some formidable designs, with a/w 2011’s collection hinting towards a very bridal silhouette.

With the classic McQueen signature of opulent fabrics and intricate embellishments, these dresses look fit for a princess, and would definitely make for iconic photographs in years to come.

In just over 2 weeks, the whole country will be watching the wedding. Some will be lucky enough to have had an invite and watch the ceremony in the flesh. But for the majority of us, we will be watching it on TV screens across the nation, and with the bank holiday granted, there are events taking place all over to commemorate the occasion.

Some villages are hosting street parties and others are having garden parties, needless to say, British pubs will be doing a roaring trade with revellers taking the celebrations through the night. I will be attending a Royal Wedding barbeque (weather permitting) and enjoy cucumber sandwiches and the odd glass of Pimms. When thinking about how many pairs of eyes will be watching Kate, I’m sure a few pre-wedding jitters will be making an appearance shortly.
