About Me by Guest Blogger Robyn Mellow

Fashion and Me:

Fashion is more than just what you wear! It is a source of creativity and a way for an individual to create a new persona. Fashion has become a part of my life not just as a hobby but rather a life choice. Born and bred in Zimbabwe, I made my move across the globe to experience a new culture and of course a new fashion style. Growing up in Africa has brought about many influences in my style as well as wanting to experiment with new trends.

Studying Fashion:

I am currently a second year student at Northampton University studying fashion marketing, and hope to journey into fashion journalism. The fashion industry has always fascinated and drawn me into its creative and ever adapting changes. Once fashion was all about trends, now the influence of vintage and ethical fashion has created a new want and demand for something different. Style no longer is based on what trend you appear to be wearing but rather your own self expression which has influence street style and the demand for unconventional looks.

My fashion style:

My style and influence on what to wear purely comes from my fascination and constant exploration of trends. Each new season is like Christmas, waiting and wanting the new next “it” item and adapting it to suit and create your own individual look. Designers such as Hannah MacGibbon for French fashion house Chloe has had an impact on what I wear and how I adapt the catwalk trends into my own individual style. Her look is based on bringing femininity and style into a woman’s wardrobe as well as allowing freedom of movement and comfort. This season Chloe has focused on the late 1970’s tailored look, letting go of the hippie era and adapting a more subtle but trend focused style.

Other Fashion Inspirations:

Phoebe Philo for Celine is another firm favourite of mine, with her chic and simple look created each season. Both designers understand the women they design for and also what women want in aesthetical details. I adapt their style and trend ideas to create a look that suits myself and also allows me to be self-expressive with what I wear.
