London Fashion Week 2011

If there is one experience in life that all fashion followers should endure, it should be fashion week.  As a student studying fashion, my whole life is revolved around fashion. From future trends to must have items, I am engulfed into this world which can be frantic at times.

My Story

.

This year I was able to work backstage for London Fashion Week, being able to view fresh new collections for the forthcoming winter season. My dreams were slowly coming true, all my life this experience was my ideal way to thrive and encapsulate the iconic glamour of the fashion industry.

Working at London Fashion Week

Glamour is a short lived word and fashion is far from it. The week began with a bang, creating a frenzy of photographers trying to get that one shot which will make or break a collection and send it straight to front page news. Among all this unrest, there I was dressing models and trying to keep calm.  Backstage is an experience of its own, from tantrums to malfunctions, all can happen in a matter minutes and feels like a life time to solve.  Dressing may seem a simple task but involves patience and a need for speed to get the job done. A show lasts a matter of minutes but the time leading up to this frantic and hell rising moment can feel like eternity. No job is too small and although it is hard work, it is worth every sore foot from those hideous heels, which I will state I no longer wear due to the crippling pain they made me endure.

Mingling with the Stars

.

Although front row seats are the must have when it comes to fashion week, back stage is equally as rewarding. Being able to see a collection before it is released into the world is a rewarding attribute that you are able to gain backstage and is a once in a life time experience which cannot be governed by any other opportunity that you have experienced so far. Another perk of the job is the experience of mingling with the stars; I was able to meet the iconic Beth Ditto whom on the night was celebrating her 30th Birthday.

My First Show

Once of my greatest experiences was being able to watch my first London Fashion Week show, which was the ultimate gift one can receive from the fashion industry.  The show was Pam Hogg which in its own right was a show stopper with the likes of Daisy Lowe and Alice Dellal gracing the catwalk and infusing their iconic British style into another extraordinary Fashion Week.

Whilst working behind the scenes this season, the new collections bring about trends which not longer make winter seem drab.  From delicate lace detailing at Ashley Isham to extreme colour and prints contrasts at Louise Gray, these designers represent what London Fashion Week stand for, creative and unique designs dedicated to the followers of fashion.
