Are you tanorexic or simply a nudist?
Every year as summer comes knocking the seasonal essentials become every day commodities in our daily rituals. Ensuring nails are constantly polished to the seasons ‘must have colour’, keeping hair in top notch condition and copiously applying the tan to ensure an effortless glow all summer round, are all part and parcel of keeping us looking our best in the brighter months. However, this year there’s a new tan in town that won’t stain your towels, nor give off a curious stench once crawling into bed after a day cavorting in a beer garden, and that’s this season’s essential shade for keeping us all bang on trend. What’s more you don’t have to spend many an hour applying it, simply wear it!
As the winter months are behind us, the richer pallets of camel have been muted down to encapsulate a more chilled tone that can be pulled off by even the least fashionable amongst us. Whether worn as a neutralizer to this seasons other big deal ‘colour blocking’, or head to toe a la Chloe’, nude and tan must feature in all of your summer ensembles.
These top five tan-talising pieces should point you in the right direction, and give your skin a bit of a breather.
- Folklore and all things tribal add a festival feel to this seasons more muted trend. Rather than making a statement with colour, texture helps to contribute to a potentially flat backdrop, crochet and plaiting feature heavily to add an extra dimension. This TFNC tunic epitomises this look with ease.
- Sky scraper heels, flat-forms and wedges, all big styles in the shoe world this season, no matter what heel suits you best, there is one thing that remains constant in the shoe spectrum, and that’s tan leather. Paired with either a maxi or even denim shorts, these Kurt Geiger wedges are the ideal summer sandal.
- Those sultry summer nights spent in front of awe inspiring views with a glass of wine in hand have had something missing all these years. Nude floaty fabrics add an extra level of romance, whether walking the length of a sandy beach or even watching the sun set at friends BBQ. This raw silk dress by Surface to Air could fill that hole your wardrobe has been missing.
- Fringing, tassels and all things western are some of the biggest trends this year has seen. They can be worn head to toe, as Ralf Lauren’s s/s 2011 collection emulates, but if the urban cowboy trend seems a little over facing, there are plenty of accessories to jump on the band wagon without having a fashion standoff. This suede fringed bag by French Connection is the perfect summer accessory.
- The key to wearing nudes is not to go overboard, too much can make you look washed out. Wearing hints of the cool tone can help create the illusion of nudity, even when covered up. These Style Stalker leggings add another dimension to an otherwise lackluster outfit.
